Lose or gain weight ?

Should i lose or gain weight ? We all facing this question in our life and it is not easy answer.

Is your weight too low ?

You might think that you are lucky because whatever you are eating you don’t gain any weight ! Maybe you are thinking that you would love to have more muscles, a more toned body ? Are you scared that one day you will be sick and it will be more difficult for you to get-out of the disease without a resilient body? Do you like the body you see in the mirror?

Are you over-weighted ?

You might think that you love yourself as you are and you don’t know why to change. You feel like you don’t want to give up of any food because eating is so good (yeah it is so good)! You fell like exercising is too much constrain, too much effort ? Are you worried for your health and all the consequences to be over-weighted ? And even more frustrating, when you do some activities with your friends or family and you are not able to follow them. Do you like the body you see in the the mirror?

First, the fact to love or not the image we see in our mirror is not link with how healthy our body is.

Loving ourselves should be a constant status not depending on any parameters. I always tell my daughter: “nobody will love you more than yourself”, it doesn’t mean you have to be self-oriented but for other to love you and respect you, you have to do it to yourself.

Now, knowing if you should lose or gain weight is much more a health issue. Unfortunately, at least 2.8 million people each year die from being over-weighted. You can also die from being under-weighted (malnutrition). Being over-weighted or under-weighted can cause cardiovascular disease, diabetes, musculoskeletal disorders, some cancer (endometrial, breast, ovarian, prostate, liver, gallbladder, kidney, colon, …).

It is never too late to act
Even if it is difficult, it is not impossible!
Impossible n’est pas français

Impossible is not French, i am french and I do believe in this quote but I will transform it to impossible is not us. 3 years ago I was working in an office, with 2 stones more and facing one of the difficult day of my life. I will tell you that story another time. But I found the motivation to do sport and had a healthy nutrition until I became a PT. Not everybody can be PT, but you can find your own motivation.

You need to find the reason that motivate you (be able to make a long trek, to run and play with your children/grandchildren, to climb up the stairs without blackout or being breathless, …). Several reasons can be found. Take the most important for you and write it down on a paper and stick it somewhere that you can see it regularly, it will help you to make the effort. Yes, it is an effort, if not, you would have done it since a long time, but your future healthy life worse it. It will be days when it will be more difficult than other. It will be even some period when you will let it go, but now you have found the reason to do it, you will always come back on the right path in your healthy journey. Don’t forget if it was easy, everybody would have a healthy body since long but unfortunately it is not the case and it is up to ourselves to make the change and put our health in first position.
